Making the Connection: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) and Family Planning, Birth Control Sabotage, Pregnancy Pressure and Unintended Pregnancy

Course Description
This course explores the link between violence and reproductive health and how unplanned pregnancies increase women's risk for violence. Intimate partner violence (IPV) in the form of birth control sabotage and other forms of reproductive coercion presents unique challenges for intervention. Strategies from a community-based family planning intervention to reduce partner violence are presented.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion, participants will be able to:
- Describe assessment and intervention for reproductive coercion.
- Describe ways to use Education and Counseling coding to support staff time associated with more complicated visits.
- Review a new tool for documentation, compliance and reporting around reproductive coercion.

Physicians attending this program can earn up to 1.5 contact
hours of Category I credits toward the California Medical
Association’s Certification in Continuing Medical Education and the
American Medical Association’s Physician's Recognition Award. The
American Academy of Physician Assistants and the American College of
Nurse Midwives accept Category I CME approval.

Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #CEP 12241 for up to 1.8
contact hours.
CFHC is designated as a provider of
Category I continuing education contact hours in health education by the
National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. Health
Educators attending this program may report up to 1.5 Certified
Health Education Specialist (CHES) contact hours.
The California Family Health Council,
Inc., provider number PCE3165, is an approved provider of continuing
education for MFT and LCSW licensure requirements in California. Course
meets the qualifications for 1.5 hours of continuing education
credit for MFCCs and/or LCSWs as required by the California
Board of Behavioral Sciences.
