Course Description
This webcast will review the latest information about the most effective methods of female contraception - implants, intrauterine devices and sterilization - which will include the principles of placement of each device, risks and contraindications and other important information to facilitate client counseling regarding these methods.
Course Objectives
At the conclusion, participants will be able to:
- Counsel women on the effectiveness, side effects and non-contraceptive benefits of each of the long term methods.
- Describe the principles of placement of the devices and steps involved with the different sterilization techniques.
- List the procedurally-related risks for each method.
- Describe the contraindications to use of each method in order to help select appropriate women to whom these methods should be offered.

This is an activity offered by the California Family Health Council, Inc., a CMA-accredited provider. Physicians attending this program can earn up to 1.5 contact hours of Category I credits toward the California Medical Association’s Certification in Continuing Medical Education and the American Medical Association’s Physician's Recognition Award. The American Academy of Physician Assistants and the American College of Nurse Midwives accept Category I CME approval.
